Abdul Carter sends 3-word message to New York Giants HC Brian Daboll after dodging prank call

During the 2025 NFL Draft, Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter, who was selected third overall by the New York Giants, was the target of a prank call. Someone pretending to be from the Jacksonville Jaguars falsely told Carter he would be selected second overall. In reality, the Jaguars picked Colorado’s Travis Hunter.

Carter’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, recognized the call as a prank and chose not to tell Carter’s family at the time to avoid confusion.

After the incident, Carter sent a three-word message to Giants head coach Brian Daboll: “Ready to work.” The message highlighted his focus and determination to begin his NFL career with the Giants despite the distraction.

The NFL is now investigating multiple prank calls that occurred during the draft. The league has already fined the Atlanta Falcons and defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich after his son made a prank call to quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

Carter’s calm and professional response to the prank has been praised as a sign of his maturity and readiness for the next level.
