Over the last few months, the Texas Longhorns roster has undergone many changes. That continued on Thursday when punter Michael Kern entered the transfer portal. He was the team’s starting punter last year, but that was not a given in 2025 after Texas added Utah transfer Jack Bouwmeester.
In his only year with Texas, Kern finished with 41 punts for 1,706 yards. His longest kick went 57 yards, and the Florida native added three touchbacks to his resume. He missed two games due to injury, forcing Ian Ratliff to take his spot against Oklahoma and Georgia.
Last month in spring practices, Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian said Bouwmeester and Kern were impressive. However, only one of them can be the starter.
