Once again, the Auburn Tigers failed to see a former player selected in the first round of the NFL Draft. The fact that it has happened twice in a row for the Tigers would be embarrassing enough. However, Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze had to adjust the metric even further.
An Auburn Tiger has not been taken in the first round over the last five Drafts, the second longest (or worst, depending on how you look at it) streak in the SEC. The team that Auburn trails? The Vanderbilt Commodores, who haven’t had a first-round pick since 2008.
Has Hugh Freeze had any Auburn players drafted?
Freeze, who took over the program on Nov. 28, 2022, has only seen 10 former Tigers drafted during his tenure, five of which never technically played under him.
The first round of former Auburn players who genuinely played under Freeze and declared for the draft were in the 2024 NFL Draft. In 2024, only five Tigers were drafted, none of them going earlier than the fifth round.
2024 NFL Draft: 5 Auburn Tigers drafted, none earlier than the fifth round
2023 NFL Draft: 5 Auburn Tigers drafted, one each in rounds two through six
Auburn’s streak of years without a first-round NFL Draft pick extends to five. The only SEC school with a longer drought is Vanderbilt, whose last first-rounder came in 2008.
