BYU has officially parted ways with women’s basketball head coach Amber Whiting after three seasons leading the program. Whiting, who took over in 2022, finishes her time in Provo with a 45–51 overall record and a 19–35 record in conference play.
Despite some high points — including landmark wins over top-25 teams like No. 18 Baylor and No. 20 Oklahoma State — BYU struggled with consistency. The 2024–25 season ended with a disappointing 13–17 record and just four wins in Big 12 play.
Whiting brought in top recruits, including her daughter Amari Whiting and Delaney Gibb, who was named Big 12 Freshman of the Year. However, the team never made it to the NCAA Tournament under her leadership.
Associate head coach Lee Cummard will serve as interim head coach as BYU begins the search for Whiting’s replacement. The coaching change comes during a time of transition for BYU Athletics, with longtime athletic director Tom Holmoe set to retire at the end of the 2024–25 season.
The next head coach will be tasked with reviving a program that has struggled to find its footing in the highly competitive Big 12 Conference.
