Fastest WR at NFL Combine Plummets in Latest NFL Mock Draft
Texas Longhorns wide receiver Matthew Golden has been one of the most popular names of the last month or two heading into the 2025 NFL Draft.
At the NFL Combine, Golden ran a blazing fast 4.29 second 40-yard dash, the second fastest time out of all participants this year, trailing only Kentucky cornerback Maxwell Hairston who ran a 4.28.
Looking ahead to the NFL Draft beginning April 24, CBS Sports analyst Tom Fornelli released his final mock draft of the year.
Despite his incredible combine, Golden plummets in the mock draft and misses out on a first round selection in the draft.
The second round was around where he was predicted to fall to prior to the combine, but after his impressive showing he was hovering in the early to mid 20s.
It is a surprise seeing him fall outside of the first round now, and could mean many different things.
In a very deep draft class, a lot of teams could be targeting defense or offensive lineman, as there is a lot of high-end talent in the mid 20s that could be top 10 picks in other drafts.
If Golden falls to the second like Fornelli is predicting, someone could be getting a steal. In a similar fashion to the Ladd McConkey selection by the Chargers last year, Golden being drafted into the right situation in the early second round could be beneficial.
Depending on how the Patriots draft, if Golden is available at the No. 38 pick, could be an incredible selection to build Drake Maye his dream offense with him and Diggs as the top receivers.
The 2025 NFL Draft begins on April 24 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
