Auburn head football coach Hugh Freeze has announced that he’s been diagnosed with early-stage prostate cancer. The 55-year-old coach shared the news with the Auburn community earlier this year, reassuring fans that the cancer was caught early and is very treatable.
Despite the diagnosis, Freeze plans to continue leading the Tigers while undergoing treatment. Auburn officials and medical staff are confident he’ll make a full recovery and are fully supporting him during this time.
Freeze, who joined Auburn in late 2022, has had a rocky start with an 11-14 record over two seasons, but the team is hopeful for a turnaround in 2025. With promising recruits and key transfers, including former Oklahoma quarterback Jackson Arnold, there’s still plenty of optimism for the program’s future.
Spring practice kicks off March 25, and Freeze will remain at the helm, committed to pushing his team forward even as he tackles this personal challenge.
Auburn fans and players have rallied behind him, showing overwhelming support and respect for his resilience and leadership.
