Texas baseball ace Jared Spencer departed Thursday night’s game against Auburn with soreness in his pitching arm, Longhorns coach Jim Schlossnagle said.
Spencer allowed a home run to Auburn’s Ike Irish in the top of the third inning. He then threw two pitches to the next batter before pitching coach Max Weiner emerged from the dugout to visit with him on the mound. Schlossnagle and a member of the UT training staff followed, and Spencer was removed from the game.
“I think he’ll be fine,” Schlossnagle said postgame. “We’ll have people look at him tomorrow. Obviously, we’ll handle him with kid gloves.”Texas went on to beat Auburn 3-2 in the first game of a three-game set. With the Easter holiday on Sunday, the series began a day earlier than usual, giving Spencer one less day to recover than he’s accustomed to.
