One familiar coach is eyeing Georgia transfer WR despite suspension baggage
One of Kirby Smart’s former assistants is now targeting a former Bulldog.
Transfer portal season always brings a lot of excitement with Georgia football fans as they anxiously wait to see who Kirby Smart and his staff will bring in from the transfer portal. However, there is always the chance for some drama as well as UGA will have to worry about who they are going to lose to the portal and what schools will be targeting their players.
One Bulldog that has already entered the transfer portal is wide receiver Nitro Tuggle, who did so after being suspended indefinitely earlier this offseason. It was hard to predict what schools would pursue Tuggle because some may be turned off by his recent suspension, but a few suitors have reportedly made their presence known.
And one of those suitors is former Georgia assistant Fran Brown, who is now the head coach at Syracuse.
Nitro Tuggle has two schools pursuing him in the portal
According to 247Sports’ Tom Loy, Syracuse and Indiana are two schools who have been showing interest in Tuggle since he entered the transfer portal.
Georgia fans may not typically care that much about where former Bulldogs go, and why should they because once they aren’t at Georgia anymore then they no longer impact the program. But Syracuse showing interest in Tuggle will grab the attenion of UGA fans because one of Smart’s former assistants is now their head coach.
Brown is coming off a very successful first season at Syracuse that saw them finish 10-3 and win their bowl game against Washington State. This was awesome to see for Georgia fans because they want nothing more than for Brown to be successful at Syracuse.
Most Georgia fans however would likely think it’s strange for a former Georgia coach to try and steal a player from them, but that isn’t the case here. Not only was Tuggle suspended at Georgia, but he also already decided to leave the program. So who cares where he ends up going to at this point.
If he does end up picking Brown and Syracuse then
hopefully it works out for both parties, because Georgia fans would most likely love to see Syracuse continue to find success under their former coach.
