In a powerful act of generosity and compassion, Duke Blue Devils head basketball coach Jon Scheyer has donated $15 million to support and uplift the lives of orphans in need.
The donation, one of the largest charitable contributions ever made by a college basketball coach, will go toward the expansion and long-term support of a global orphanage initiative focused on education, mental health, and quality living conditions for underprivileged children.
“Basketball has given me so much, but this—this is something bigger,” Scheyer said in a heartfelt statement. “Every child deserves a chance to thrive, to dream, and to be loved. I’m honored to be part of something that can change lives far beyond the hardwood.”
Scheyer’s generosity is already inspiring others across the basketball community, with players, alumni, and fans rallying in support of the cause. Plans are underway to build new facilities, create mentorship programs, and provide academic resources that will impact thousands of children.
Since stepping into the spotlight as Coach K’s successor, Scheyer has not only upheld Duke’s legacy on the court but has now proven himself a true leader off of it. His gift is a reminder that greatness isn’t just measured in wins and trophies—it’s also found in kindness, vision, and the courage to give back.
