Clutch Behind the Plate: WVU’s Logan Sauve Named Big 12 Player of the Week After Offensive Surge and Defensive Brilliance

West Virginia University catcher Logan Sauve has been named the Big 12 Baseball Player of the Week, a testament to his outstanding performance and leadership on the field. This recognition comes as no surprise to Mountaineer fans, who have witnessed Sauve’s consistent contributions throughout his collegiate career.

In the 2024 season, Sauve showcased his offensive prowess by hitting .308 with eight home runs, 37 RBIs, and 42 runs scored. His defensive skills were equally impressive, throwing out nine base stealers and maintaining a .992 fielding percentage . These statistics earned him a spot on the All-Big 12 Preseason Team for 2025, highlighting his value to the team.

Sauve’s impact was particularly notable during the NCAA Tucson Regional, where he was named to the All-Tournament Team. He led the team with a .462 batting average (6-for-13), including a pivotal three-run homer in the 4-1 victory over Dallas Baptist, propelling the Mountaineers to their first-ever NCAA Super Regional appearance .

Beyond his on-field achievements, Sauve’s dedication to the program is evident in his decision to withdraw from the 2024 MLB Draft to return for another season. Expressing his commitment, he stated, “My dream has always been to play in Omaha and to play in the MLB. I’m taking my name out of the draft so I can chase my dream of helping take WVU Baseball to Omaha” .

Sauve’s journey is also marked by a unique familial connection. He and his father, Jeff Sauve, became the first father-son duo coached by Randy Mazey at WVU, adding a personal dimension to his collegiate experience .
