On Tuesday afternoon, the West Virginia Mountaineers bolstered their 2025–26 men’s basketball roster with the addition of North Texas transfer guard Jasper Floyd. The 6-foot-3 Tampa native brings a wealth of experience and a versatile skill set to Morgantown, aiming to make an immediate impact in the Big 12 Conference.
Floyd’s collegiate journey began at Northwest Florida State College, where he contributed to the Raiders’ 2022 NJCAA Division I National Championship victory. He then transferred to Hillsborough College for the 2022–23 season, serving as team captain and averaging 14.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game. His performance caught the attention of Fairfield University, where he played the 2023–24 season. At Fairfield, Floyd led the Stags in assists (153), rebounds (220), and steals (87), setting a single-season program record for steals. He averaged 9.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 2.3 steals per game, showcasing his all-around capabilities .
In the 2024–25 season, Floyd joined North Texas, where he continued to excel. He opened the season with a 23-point performance against Evansville, leading the Mean Green to an 80–63 victory . His standout moment came during the NIT, where he hit a game-winning jumper with two seconds remaining to secure a 65–63 win over Arkansas State, finishing with 18 points and five rebounds . In the previous round, he contributed 19 points, six rebounds, and seven assists in a 75–64 victory over Furman .
Floyd’s consistent performance and leadership qualities make him a valuable addition to the Mountaineers. With one year of eligibility remaining, he aims to bring his defensive prowess and playmaking abilities to West Virginia, contributing to the team’s pursuit of success in the upcoming season.
