The latest Duke Chronicle profile is of junior guard Tyrese Proctor. The 6-6 Aussie has been somewhat unusual by modern Duke standards, having stuck around for three seasons.
He’s helped establish the Jon Scheyer era and has helped immensely in the transition from the Krzyzewski era.
As the Chronicle notes, Scheyer got emotional when he discussed Proctor after the loss to Houston in the Final Four, underscoring his contributions.
Like Cooper Flagg, Proctor showed up a year early, but unlike Flagg, he’s not a prodigy years ahead of schedule. Proctor had to work to catch up. He started kind of slow as a freshman and then caught up. As a sophomore, his shooting was questioned; not so much as a junior.
As much as anyone, Proctor has improved his all-around game and has emerged as a leader. And among other things, it’s nice to see someone stick around long enough to have a multi-season bond with the fans.
