BREAKING NEWS: Kentucky’s all-star PG Georgia Amoore has been selected No. 6 overall in the 2025 WNBA Draft

Georgia Amoore Selected No. 6 Overall in 2025 WNBA Draft by Washington Mystics

In a momentous milestone for both player and program, Kentucky Wildcats’ standout point guard Georgia Amoore was selected No. 6 overall in the 2025 WNBA Draft on Monday night, hearing her name called by the Washington Mystics.

Amoore, a graduate transfer from Virginia Tech who played her final collegiate season at Kentucky, capped her college career with a flourish—solidifying her status as one of the most dynamic and high-IQ point guards in the country. Her draft selection marks Kentucky’s highest pick since Rhyne Howard went No. 1 overall in 2022, and signals a major win for the Wildcats’ recruiting and development pipeline under head coach Kyra Elzy.

“Georgia brought a level of leadership, grit, and playmaking to our program that you can’t teach,” said Elzy in a post-draft statement. “She made everyone around her better and fully deserves this moment.”

Known for her sharp court vision, lightning-quick handles, and deep shooting range, Amoore averaged 16.2 points, 7.1 assists, and 3.8 rebounds per game during the 2024-25 season. Her ability to control pace, find open shooters, and create her own shot made her a nightmare for opposing defenses and a consistent highlight reel for Kentucky fans.

She’ll now join a Mystics team in a transition phase, looking to rebuild around young talent and establish a new identity in the post-Elena Delle Donne era. Amoore’s readiness to run a professional offense from day one could make her a pivotal piece in that evolution.

“Being drafted is a dream come true,” Amoore said with a smile on the draft stage. “I’m grateful to Kentucky, to my coaches, teammates, and everyone who’s supported me along the way. I’m ready to bring my game to D.C. and compete at the highest level.”
