The Duke Chronicle Profiles Isaiah Evans

A sniper at first, Evans considerably expanded his talent stack during the season. It took Isaiah Evans a bit to settle into a role with Duke but by the time the Blue Devils played Auburn in Cameron on December 4th, he had his first take on it: Evans came off the bench to score 18, all before halftime.

The message was clear: this guy can shoot.

He showed a lot more, as this profile from the Duke Chronicle reminds.

By the end of the season, Evans showed that he could penetrate, pass and most impressively became a solid defender.

When he came to Duke, Evans said that he wasn’t interested in doing things the easy way; he wanted a harder path to prove himself. Check out coach Jon Scheyer’s comments on Evans from the article:

“[Evans has] grown so much this year. You know, the scoring and shooting. He’s always had that, but to do it efficiently at this level, to defend, to understand rotations. He’s been in the gym at six in the morning, late at night, like he grinds. And he’s obsessed with this.”

One of the pleasures that we get less often these days is seeing a young player develop. Watching Evans grow has really been great. Let’s hope we get to see a lot more.
