Cooper Flagg Not Impressed With Jon Scheyer’s Nickname After Duke-Baylor

In a surprising turn of events after Duke’s victory over Baylor, top recruit Cooper Flagg was less than impressed by a nickname coined by Duke head coach Jon Scheyer. The highly touted 2024 prospect had been a subject of much anticipation as he is expected to make a significant impact on the court for whichever team he decides to join.

After Duke’s tight win, Scheyer, in an attempt to hype up the team’s performance and the rising star’s potential, gave Flagg a playful nickname during a post-game interview. “The Big Flagg,” Scheyer said with enthusiasm. However, it seems Flagg was not sold on the name.

“I don’t know about that one,” Flagg responded when asked about the nickname. “It’s a bit too cheesy for me. I’m just focused on my game, not the nicknames.”

Flagg, who is known for his serious approach to the game, appears more interested in staying focused on his development and team dynamics rather than the theatrics surrounding his rising stardom. Despite his unimpressed reaction to Scheyer’s nickname, it’s clear that Flagg’s potential as a future basketball star continues to excite fans and analysts alike.

Jon Scheyer, meanwhile, has made it clear that he’s a big fan of Flagg’s talent and believes he could be a game-changer for Duke. The nickname, he explained, was simply a fun way to show his admiration for the young player’s skills. “We’re just having fun with it,” Scheyer stated, laughing off Flagg’s reaction. “But there’s no doubt about it—Cooper’s got something special.”

The Duke-Baylor game was another showcase of Flagg’s immense talent, as he made his presence felt on both ends of the floor. The young forward displayed the kind of versatility that has many already considering him one of the top prospects in next year’s NBA draft.

While the nickname didn’t seem to land with Flagg, his play on the court certainly did. With his combination of skill, athleticism, and basketball IQ, Cooper Flagg continues to prove why he’s one of the most exciting young talents in the sport today. Whether or not he embraces his coach’s nickname, one thing is certain—his future in basketball is incredibly bright.
