The Ohio State Buckeyes hockey team secured back-to-back road victories over Notre Dame this weekend, winning 5-1 on both Friday and Saturday in South Bend.
With this sweep, the Buckeyes completed a season series domination of the Fighting Irish. Their previous matchups in December also resulted in Ohio State victories (4-0 and 4-2). This weekend’s wins mark their first series sweep since that December matchup.
Senior goalie Logan Terness was a key player for the Buckeyes, making 68 saves and allowing just two goals across both games, earning an impressive 97.1% save percentage. Ohio State improved to an 18-8-2 overall record (11-6-1 in the Big Ten).
In both games, Ohio State initially fell behind 1-0 before rallying with five unanswered goals. Davis Burnside scored in each game, while Ryan Gordon netted two goals in Friday’s win.
Before this series, the Buckeyes had split or lost their last four series since December, but this strong performance could provide momentum for a better run as they push for higher rankings. Currently, Ohio State sits at No. 9 in the national rankings and third in the Big Ten standings.
Up next, the Buckeyes will return home to face No. 19 Wisconsin, who is ranked fifth in the Big Ten. Earlier this season, Ohio State swept the Badgers in Madison, winning both games 2-1, with one victory coming in overtime.
These wins are crucial for Ohio State as they aim to strengthen their NCAA Tournament resume ahead of March, regardless of their performance in the Big Ten Tournament.
