Final ESPN FPI Rankings for 2024 Season: Alabama Secures Top-Five Spo
With the 2024 college football season officially concluded, ESPN has released its final Football Power Index (FPI) rankings, reflecting a different perspective from the AP Top 25 and the College Football Playoff (CFP) committee.
As expected, Ohio State claims the top spot after securing the national championship with a win over Notre Dame. However, the FPI ranks Texas at No. 2, ahead of the Fighting Irish, who land at No. 3.
One of the more debated placements comes at Nos. 4 and 5, where Alabama and Ole Miss rank higher than Penn State, Georgia, Oregon, Tennessee, and Indiana, all of whom were in the CFP. This discrepancy highlights the formula-driven nature of FPI, which measures overall team strength rather than simply ranking teams based on wins and losses.
