Ohio State has made a swift decision on who will replace Chip Kelly as their offensive coordinator. Following Kelly’s departure to join the Las Vegas Raiders as their offensive coordinator, the Buckeyes have promoted Brian Hartline, who had previously served as the co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach.
Hartline, a former wide receiver for the Buckeyes from 2005 to 2009, has deep ties to Ohio, both as a player and coach. Since joining the Ohio State coaching staff in 2017, Hartline has earned a reputation for his recruiting abilities and his success in developing standout wide receivers. Some of the notable first-round NFL draft picks he has helped cultivate include Garrett Wilson, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Chris Olave, and Marvin Harrison Jr.
As Hartline steps into the offensive coordinator role, he will also take on the responsibility of calling plays, a duty previously held by Kelly, with head coach Ryan Day expected to provide him the same freedom. Fans have expressed enthusiasm about Hartline’s promotion, joking that he’ll focus on continuing to make the wide receiver position even more dynamic in the offense.
