In a heartwarming turn of events, Jaystin Gwinn, a 2025 three-star quarterback, has committed to Ohio State as a preferred walk-on, continuing his family’s connection to the program. Gwinn, ranked 1,865th overall and 104th among quarterbacks in his class, hails from Westerville, Ohio. Despite receiving scholarship offers from schools like Kentucky, Akron, and Kent State, he chose to walk-on at Ohio State. In 2024, he played five games for Westerville Central High School, throwing for 624 yards and three touchdowns with a 51.5% completion rate.
Jaystin’s commitment holds special meaning as it honors the legacy of his late uncle, Jayson Gwinn, a former Ohio State defensive end. Jayson was on track to make an impact with the Buckeyes before his life was tragically cut short in a car accident near the Woody Hayes Athletic Center in 1993 at just 20 years old. Now, 21 years later, Jaystin will have the opportunity to continue his family’s ties to Ohio State and honor his uncle’s memory.
