Notre Dame’s Marcus Freeman Spotted Ringside at 2025 Royal Rumble

Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman made a ringside appearance at the 2025 WWE Royal Rumble, just two weeks after his team fell short in the College Football National Championship against Ohio State. The event, held in Indianapolis, Indiana, was streamed on Peacock, marking Freeman’s return to the spotlight following the Fighting Irish’s 34-23 loss to the Buckeyes.

A lifelong wrestling fan, Freeman grew up watching WWE and even attended WrestleMania events during his college days at Ohio State, where he befriended former NFL linebacker James Laurinaitis, the son of WWE legend Road Warrior Animal. Freeman’s passion for wrestling has continued into adulthood, and he now shares the experience with his children, who accompanied him to the Royal Rumble.

Freeman’s appearance at the event sparked excitement among fans and wrestlers alike. Earlier in January, he had discussed his love for wrestling, revealing that he often takes his kids to shows when possible. The Royal Rumble, being just a short drive or flight from South Bend, provided the perfect opportunity for a family outing.

While some fans questioned Freeman’s decision to attend the event so soon after the championship loss, many others appreciated seeing him enjoy time with his family. Freeman’s presence at the Royal Rumble also hinted at his continued connection to wrestling, which he has described as a source of joy and inspiration for both himself and his children.

Freeman’s wrestling fandom dates back to his childhood, where he idolized legends like Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior. As an adult, attending events with Laurinaitis and now sharing the experience with his kids has kept his passion alive. Whether or not Freeman draws any inspiration from the event for the upcoming football season remains to be seen, but for now, it was a chance for the coach to unwind and enjoy a night of entertainment with his family.
