Ohio State head coach Ryan Day recently shared his thoughts on an interesting question posed by NBA superstar LeBron James could he still play college football?
Following Ohio State national championship victory on January 20 in the first-ever 12-team College Football Playoff, Day made an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. During the interview, Fallon brought up a tweet James posted back in September 2022, where he questioned whether he had any remaining college eligibility if he chose to play a sport other than basketball.
If LeBron James wanted to play college football and suit up for your team, could that actually happen Fallon asked.
Day responded with a mix of admiration and humor, acknowledging James strong ties to Ohio State as a passionate supporter of the program. However, he made it clear that the four-time NBA champion wouldn’t receive any special treatment if he ever decided to trade the hardwood for the gridiron.
LeBron is a huge Ohio State fan and has always been a great supporter, Day said. But if he were to join the team, he’d be right there with the freshmen in the back of the room, working his way up just like everybody else.
James, who played wide receiver during his high school days at St. Vincent-St. Mary in Akron, Ohio, was widely regarded as a phenomenal football talent before choosing basketball. While itall hypothetical, the idea of a 6’9LeBron James lining up as a receiver for the Buckeyes is certainly an exciting thought for sports fans everywhere.
