AFC’s Top Rusher Missing Pro Bowl: Derrick Henry’s Mysterious Absence Shocks Fans!

The 2024 NFL season witnessed Baltimore Ravens’ Derrick Henry leading the AFC in rushing yards. However, despite his impressive performance, Henry will not be part of the Pro Bowl Games. The Buffalo Bills announced that James Cook would take Henry’s spot on the roster, though no reason was provided for Henry’s absence.

Henry isn’t the only former Alabama player missing from the Pro Bowl. Landon Dickerson, chosen as an NFC guard, will also be absent as his team, the Philadelphia Eagles, have advanced to the Super Bowl.

In his debut season with the Ravens, Henry ran for 1,921 yards on 325 carries, marking the 11th-highest single-season total in NFL history. He tied for the league lead with 16 rushing touchdowns and set the franchise record with 18 total touchdowns, including two TD receptions. Additionally, he had 19 receptions for 193 yards.

Henry’s postseason performance was equally remarkable, accumulating 270 yards and three touchdowns on 42 carries across two playoff games. This marks the second consecutive season, and fourth in the past six years, that Henry led the AFC in rushing yards. His consistency is notable, with top finishes in 2018, 2019, and 2020 as well.

Henry has earned five Pro Bowl selections over his career. Initially, the Pro Bowl roster featured 11 players with roots in Alabama high schools and colleges, including:

  • Brian Branch (Detroit Lions, strong safety)
  • Nico Collins (Houston Texans, wide receiver)
  • Minkah Fitzpatrick (Pittsburgh Steelers, free safety)
  • Jahmyr Gibbs (Detroit Lions, running back)
  • Marlon Humphrey (Baltimore Ravens, cornerback)
  • Josh Jacobs (Green Bay Packers, running back)
  • Jerry Jeudy (Cleveland Browns, wide receiver)
  • Xavier McKinney (Green Bay Packers, free safety)
  • Patrick Surtain II (Denver Broncos, cornerback)
