Trey Amos exemplifies the modern star athlete navigating the era of the transfer portal. Hailing from New Iberia, Louisiana, Amos started his college career just 21 miles from home with the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns. After three successful years in the Sun Belt Conference, he seized the opportunity to compete at a higher level, joining Nick Saban’s Alabama squad.
However, following Saban’s retirement after just one season, Amos transferred again, this time to the Ole Miss Rebels for his final college season. Currently in Mobile, Amos is competing in the Reese’s Senior Bowl at Hancock Whitney Stadium. Despite his journey through multiple teams, he maintains strong connections with all his former programs.
Reflecting on his transfers, Amos emphasized the mutual respect and understanding from his previous schools. “Honestly, it’s all love. I didn’t see any beef,” he said. “People knew I wanted to put myself in a better position. At the end of the day, there’s no bad blood; it’s all love from both schools.”
When considering Ole Miss, Amos sought advice from players like Jaxson Dart and J.J. Pegues, who also transitioned from major programs to Oxford. Dart, originally a quarterback at Southern Cal, and Pegues, a former Auburn defensive lineman/tight end/fullback, provided valuable insights.
This level of movement is increasingly common in college sports. Amos highlighted the importance of finding the best situation for growth as both a player and person. “I showed that I want to become better,” he noted. “It took a lot of hard work transitioning from the Sun Belt to Alabama, but I made the most of it. I went to Ole Miss after gaining so much knowledge at Bama and added even more knowledge. I got the best out of all three schools that made me grow up.”
In his journey, Amos has demonstrated adaptability and a commitment to excellence, making the most of every opportunity and experience along the way.
