Jalen Hurts set a new NFL playoff record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback as the Philadelphia Eagles secured their spot in Super Bowl LIX by defeating the Washington Commanders 55-23 in the NFC Championship Game. Hurts now holds nine rushing touchdowns across eight postseason games, breaking the previous record of eight set by San Francisco 49ers’ Steve Young, achieved over 22 playoff games.
Remarkably, Hurts has matched a unique feat twice: three rushing touchdowns and one passing touchdown in a single NFL playoff game. The first to achieve this was Cleveland Browns’ Otto Graham in the 1954 NFL Championship Game, and Hurts equaled it in Super Bowl LVII despite the Eagles’ 38-35 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Hurts’ standout performance included two critical touchdowns in the final two minutes of the first half against Washington. His 1-yard sneak extended Philadelphia’s lead to 20-12 with 1:44 remaining in the half. Following a Commanders’ fumble, Hurts capitalized with a 4-yard touchdown pass to AJ Brown, pushing the Eagles ahead further.
He continued his stellar play in the second half, scoring a 9-yard touchdown run, cementing the Eagles’ dominance with a 34-15 lead midway through the third quarter.
