The Cowboys’ coaching turmoil began with the departure of head coach Mike McCarthy after a five-year stint during which he led the team to three 12-win seasons. McCarthy’s exit created a ripple effect, leaving the door open for other coaching staff members to be recruited by rival teams. Special teams coordinator John Fassel was among the first to leave, heading to the Tennessee Titans and taking an assistant with him, marking a significant blow to Dallas’ leadership.

He transitioned to coaching in 2012, beginning as an intern with the Miami Dolphins. Harris then spent six productive seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, including three as the cornerbacks and secondary coach, before taking a one-year role at Florida Atlantic University (FAU). His expertise and reputation caught the attention of the Cowboys, who brought him into their fold.
