Ohio State wide receiver Carnell Tate has put an end to swirling rumors about his future, confirming his commitment to stay with the Buckeyes. Speculation about Tate entering the transfer portal had dominated headlines throughout the week, but both Tate and Ohio State’s official Twitter account all but confirmed his decision on Friday night.
Reports earlier that day claimed Tate had been offered over $1 million to transfer, sparking chatter about his potential departure in search of a No. 1 wide receiver role at another program. However, Tate has chosen to remain in Columbus and lead the Buckeyes’ 2025 receiving corps, alongside fellow standout Jeremiah Smith. Smith, who reportedly received a $4.5 million offer to transfer, also reaffirmed his commitment to Ohio State.
Tate has been a key contributor for the Buckeyes, recording 70 catches for 997 yards and five touchdowns in his two seasons. During the 2024 campaign, he started all but one game, tallying 52 receptions for 733 yards and four touchdowns. His season highlights included a two-touchdown performance in his hometown of Chicago and a seven-catch, 87-yard game in the Cotton Bowl.
The dynamic duo of Tate and Smith will likely be joined by junior Brandon Inniss in the starting lineup next season, forming a formidable wide receiver trio for Ohio State. With Tate’s decision solidified, the Buckeyes’ 2025 offense is shaping up to be as potent as ever.
