Warren Haynes, celebrated guitarist and vocalist, has brought new life to an unfinished song by the late Gregg Allman. The track, titled Real, Real Love, originated from a fragmentary lyric that Allman had written before his passing. According to Haynes, the lyric was presented to him by Allman but lacked music, melody, or a completed structure.
After Allman’s death, Haynes revisited the incomplete work and found inspiration to finish it. “All that was left was this incomplete lyric,” Haynes shared. “I got inspired, finished the lyric, and wrote music and the melody for it.” He then reached out to Derek Trucks, former Allman Brothers Band guitarist, to contribute to the project.
The collaboration became a poignant reunion for Haynes and Trucks, who had not worked in the studio together for many years. Trucks co-produced Real, Real Love along with two additional tracks on the project, lending his distinct style to the recordings. “I’m really glad that it traveled down that path,” Haynes noted. “Derek co-produced the three songs he was a part of, and I love the way all that stuff turned out. It was great being back in the studio together.”
The revival of Real, Real Love serves as both a tribute to Gregg Allman’s enduring legacy and a testament to the collaborative spirit that defined the Allman Brothers Band.
