Elena Rybakina Forced To Withdraw From 2024 Canadian Open In Toronto

Elena Rybakina Forced to Withdraw from 2024 Canadian Open in Toronto Due to Injury

Elena Rybakina, the reigning Wimbledon champion and one of the top contenders in women’s tennis, has been forced to withdraw from the 2024 Canadian Open in Toronto due to injury. The news comes as a significant blow to both the tournament and her fans, as Rybakina was expected to be one of the main attractions at this year’s event.

Rybakina’s withdrawal is reportedly due to a recurring back injury that has been troubling her in recent months. The injury flared up during her recent training sessions, leading her medical team to advise her against participating in the high-stakes tournament. The decision was made in an effort to prevent further complications and to focus on her recovery ahead of the upcoming U.S. Open.

In a statement released through her team, Rybakina expressed her disappointment at having to pull out of the prestigious event. “I’m truly gutted to miss the Canadian Open this year. Toronto is one of my favorite stops on the tour, and I was looking forward to competing in front of the amazing fans. Unfortunately, my body needs time to heal, and I have to prioritize my health to be ready for the rest of the season,” she said.

The absence of Rybakina, currently ranked among the top five in the world, is a significant loss for the tournament, which has already seen withdrawals from several other high-profile players. Organizers will now have to adjust their plans as they look to maintain the event’s competitive edge.
