Houston Astros Divisional Rival Considered Dark Horse to Sign Alex Bregman

Shake up the American League West, a divisional rival of the Houston Astros is being considered a dark horse to sign star third baseman Alex Bregman. Bregman, who has been a cornerstone of the Astros’ lineup, is set to become a free agent at the end of the 2024 season, and speculation is already swirling about where he could land.

The Seattle Mariners have emerged as a surprising contender in the Bregman sweepstakes. Known for their young core and a promising farm system, the Mariners are looking to make a splash in the free-agent market to bolster their chances of contending in the division. Adding a player of Bregman’s caliber would not only elevate their infield but also give them a proven leader in the clubhouse.

Bregman, a two-time All-Star and World Series champion, has been a key figure for the Astros since his debut in 2016. With a career batting average of .277 and a knack for coming up big in clutch moments, his presence would be a game-changer for any team. The Astros are expected to make a strong push to re-sign him, but with payroll considerations and other needs to address, it’s not guaranteed.

The Mariners’ interest in Bregman signals their commitment to taking the next step as a contender. While they have traditionally been more conservative in free agency, the team’s front office appears ready to spend to compete with the Astros, Rangers, and other AL West powerhouses.

If Seattle manages to lure Bregman away from Houston, it could mark a significant shift in the balance of power within the division. As the offseason approaches, all eyes will be on Bregman and the unfolding drama of where the star third baseman will end up.
