Parramatta Eels legend, Peter “Sterlo” Sterling. Starting out at Parramatta playing fullback and five eight, Sterlo settled into the halfback position in 1979 making it his own. He went on to star in 3 consecutive Grand Final wins, 1981, 1982 & 1983 before losing the 1984 Grand Final 6-4 vs Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs. In 1986 Sterlo was back in the Grand Final with a revenge win against the Bulldogs in a brutal 4-2 game winning the Clive Churchill Medal for his Man of the Match performance.
Sterlo played 13 origin games for NSW (4x Man of the Match awards) including the NSW series win in 1986.
Playing 18 test matches for Australia, Sterlo was a member of the Ashes winning “Invincibles” tour in 1982 playing in all 5 tests. That tour was the platform that made Sterling a highly sort after commodity in the UK. Signing for Hull, Sterling won the 1984 Yorkshire Cup picking up the White Rose Trophy (MoM) in the process. He also played against his Parramatta team mate Brett Kenny in the 1985 Challenge Cup final, with Kenny taking the win and the Lance Todd Trophy.
Not only did Sterlo have an illustrious playing career with a Golden Boot and a couple of Dally Ms, he also has an amazing career in broadcasting hosting The Footy Show with Fatty Vautin, The NRL Footy Show and The Sunday Footy Show to name a few.
