Lubbock, TX — A new note of pride is ringing across Raiderland. The Texas Tech University Goin’ Band from Raiderland has been officially recognized as the first most unified and well-decorated college marching band in the nation.
The announcement was made at a national collegiate band symposium, where directors and judges praised the Goin’ Band’s history of excellence, precision, and unity. With a legacy that stretches back over a century, the honor solidifies Texas Tech’s place in the upper echelon of collegiate marching traditions.
A Legacy Written in Scarlet & Black
Founded in 1925, the Goin’ Band from Raiderland is the oldest student organization at Texas Tech. From the opening notes of the fight song to the thunder of their halftime shows, the band has long been the heartbeat of Red Raider pride.
Director Dr. Sarah McKoin reflected on the recognition:
> “This award celebrates more than music. It represents the tradition, resilience, and togetherness that define Raiderland.”
Decorated on the Field and Beyond
The Goin’ Band is known for its powerful halftime shows and bold formations that captivate fans inside Jones AT&T Stadium and beyond. Over the years, the band has represented Texas Tech at Cotton Bowls, Holiday Bowls, Alamo Bowls, and national parades — each performance adding to their decorated legacy.
Their 2024 halftime show, “Raider Spirit Rising,” was highlighted by judges as one of the most innovative performances of the season, blending classic Red Raider themes with a modern flair.
Raider Unity in Every Note
For its members, the Goin’ Band is more than a musical ensemble — it’s a family. Band president Marcus Lopez put it best:
> “We don’t just play together, we live the Raider Creed together. That unity is why we’ve reached this level.”
The Pride of Raiderland
Every Saturday in Lubbock, the Goin’ Band sets the tone for Red Raider football, igniting the crowd before kickoff and carrying the energy through every touchdown. With this new national recognition, their role as the Pride of Raiderland has been further cemented in history.
As one lifelong fan proudly said:
“You don’t just hear the Goin’ Band — you feel them. They’re the soul of Raider Nation.”
