Tennessee Suspends Ruby Whitehorn Indefinitely After Arrest
The University of Tennessee has suspended fourth-year guard Ruby Whitehorn indefinitely following her arrest on August 8, 2025. Whitehorn faces felony charges of aggravated burglary and domestic assault after an incident in North Knox County. According to police reports, Whitehorn allegedly forced her way into a woman’s residence to retrieve her phone and passport, leading to a physical altercation and property damage. Whitehorn contends she was attempting to recover her belongings after they were taken from her .
Whitehorn’s attorney, Gregory P. Isaacs, has stated that she intends to plead not guilty at her preliminary hearing scheduled for September 5. Isaacs asserts that eyewitness accounts contradict the details outlined in the warrants and that the allegations are factually inaccurate .
Prior to this incident, Whitehorn had a standout season with the Lady Vols, starting 28 of 34 games and averaging 11.6 points and 4 rebounds per game. She transferred to Tennessee after two seasons at Clemson, where she started 62 of 66 games .
The Tennessee women’s basketball program has stated that Whitehorn is suspended indefinitely and is not participating in team activities as the legal process unfolds .
