MOUNTAINEER FOOTBALL TAKES A GIANT LEAP!
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia University has officially announced plans for a record-breaking $350 million renovation of the iconic Milan Puskar Stadium, marking one of the most ambitious facility projects in college football history. The investment signals WVU’s intent to elevate its football program to new heights while honoring the passionate Mountaineer fan base that makes Morgantown one of the toughest places to play in the country.
The crown jewel of the project will be an expanded seating capacity, designed to pack even more fans into the legendary stadium that already shakes with the sound of “Country Roads” every Saturday. The upgrade ensures that Mountaineer Nation continues to be one of the most formidable forces in the Big 12.
But this project goes far beyond additional seats—it’s a complete transformation of the fan and player experience. The renovation plans include:
Expanded Seating & Fan Comfort: New chair-back seating, better student sections, and restructured sightlines so every fan feels closer to the action.
Next-Generation Video & Sound Systems: Gigantic LED video boards and high-tech sound upgrades to keep fans immersed in every play, replay, and highlight.
Modernized Concessions & Fan Areas: Dozens of new concession stands, wider menu options, and faster service so fans spend less time in line and more time cheering.
Premium Hospitality & Luxury Suites: New club levels, upgraded press boxes, and high-end suites to attract alumni, donors, and corporate sponsors.
Cutting-Edge Training & Locker Facilities: A full rebuild of athletic facilities inside the stadium to support player development, recruiting, and team preparation.
Enhanced Accessibility & Safety: Redesigned concourses, new escalators and elevators, and full ADA compliance to make the stadium welcoming to all fans.
WVU Athletic Director Wren Baker described the renovation as a “defining moment in Mountaineer athletics”:
> “Milan Puskar Stadium is the heartbeat of our university and our state. This $350 million investment is about honoring our history, creating the best environment in college football, and preparing West Virginia for the future of the Big 12 and beyond.”
The project comes at a critical time as WVU positions itself in the new-look Big 12, where facilities and fan experience play a major role in recruiting elite talent and securing national exposure. With powerhouse programs visiting Morgantown each fall, the upgraded stadium is expected to give WVU an even stronger home-field advantage.
The local economy is also set to benefit in a big way. The expansion and modernization are projected to bring millions in additional revenue to Morgantown, thanks to increased attendance, tourism, and business on game weekends.
Construction will be completed in phases to allow WVU to continue hosting games throughout the project. The full renovations are expected to be finished in time for the 2027 season, ushering in a new era for Mountaineer football.
Fans have already taken to social media to celebrate the announcement. One supporter posted: “$350 million for our house? Country Roads just got a major upgrade. Let’s go Mountaineers!”
With this historic investment, West Virginia is making a bold statement: the Mountaineers aren’t just keeping up—they’re building a fortress for the future.
