Gerd Müller Statue Unveiled at Allianz Arena
On September 12, 2023, FC Bayern Munich unveiled a bronze statue of club legend Gerd Müller in front of the Allianz Arena. The statue, created by sculptor Karel Fron, depicts Müller in his iconic goal celebration pose. Standing at 4.2 meters tall and weighing around one tonne, it was funded through donations from FC Bayern fans and fan clubs via the Kurt Landauer Foundation.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by approximately 220 guests, including Gerd Müller’s widow, Uschi Müller, and former teammates such as Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Sepp Maier, Paul Breitner, Franz “Bulle” Roth, Peter Kupferschmidt, Sepp Weiß, Edgar Schneider, Bernd Dürnberger, Jakob Drescher, Rainer Zobel, Klaus Augenthaler, Dieter Hoeneß, Raimond Aumann, Hansi Pflügler, and Roland Wohlfarth.
Uli Hoeneß, former FC Bayern president and long-time companion of Müller, delivered the opening speech. He described Müller as “the best number nine there has probably ever been in the world” and emphasized his significance to the club, stating, “Without Gerd, this club would be nothing.”
The statue serves as a lasting tribute to Müller’s contributions to FC Bayern and German football, ensuring that his legacy continues to inspire future generat ions.
