Ohio State adds transfer piece to 2025 QB room

Ohio State is adding one final piece to the quarterback room for the 2025 season, bringing the total tally of scholarship pieces to 4.

The transfer comes in the form of Eli Brickhandler, a veteran performer out of Houston Christian in the FCS. Brickhandler began his career as a 2022 prospect for North Carolina A&T, also at the FCS level

Brickhandler received a 3-star transfer rating from 247 Sports and is listed at 6-foot-3 and 195 pounds. He appeared in 8 games for Houston Christian last season.

For the season, Brickhandler threw for 557 yards with 4 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. He also ran for 264 yards and another touchdown. During a blowout win over McNeese State, Brickhandler had 159 passing yards and 138 rushing yards with a touchdown.

With Brickhandler on board, Ohio State now has 4 scholarship quarterbacks available for Ryan Day and the offense this fall. Of course, the impact of Brickhandler is purely a depth move for the Buckeyes after an in-depth 3-man QB battle throughout the spring.

Those 3 players include Julian Sayin, Lincoln Kienholz and Tavien St. Clair. Sayin and Kienholz spent the 2024 season with the program backing up Will Howard, while St. Clair is the elite 5-star freshman.

Coming out of the spring, Day made it clear that the battle in the summer and fall camp will revolve around Sayin and Kienholz. St. Clair has the talent to be a star down the road, but the lack of experience puts him behind the others at this juncture.
