The BYU Cougars will kick off the 2025 season in 67 days against Portland State. As we continue counting down the days until kickoff, today we will profile the player who wears No. 67 – redshirt freshman center Trevor Pay – by providing three interesting, fun facts:
Fun fact No. 1 – His family bleeds BYU blue
If the last name sounds familiar, Trevor is one of the many large men who comprise the Pay clan to play for the Cougars. His father, Garry, played offensive line at BYU in the late 1980s into the early 1990s
His older brother, Connor, was a mainstay at center and one of the most important leaders on the team until finishing his outstanding BYU career last year and has since signed with the New York Giants. Trevor’s younger brother, Austin, is a high-profile near four-star player who signed with BYU’s class of 2025 and is currently serving a mission.
Fun fact No. 2 – He’s a returned missionary
Like a host of other Cougars, Trevor served a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was assigned to labor in the Alabama Birmingham mission and started his mission in 2022. After returning from his two-year assignment, he redshirted last year to knock off the mission rust that accumulates when a player’s focus shifts from football to sharing the gospel.
Fun fact No. 3 – He’s going to be pushing to make the two-deep lineup
Pay prepped at local powerhouse Lone Peak and earned a three-star rating from 247 Sports. Now, his 81 overall grade is on the lower end of the three-star designation, but that won’t stop him from competing for a spot on the two-deep roster now that his redshirt season is behind him. While Bruce Mitchell is penciled in at starting center, the backup job appears to be a two-man race between Pay and redshirt junior Sonny Makasini.
