Three-star athlete Sefanaia Alatini from Mountain View, California, has announced his commitment to Brigham Young University (BYU) as part of the Cougars’ 2026 recruiting class. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound standout from St. Francis High School shared his decision on social media Tuesday morning, stating:

Alatini, rated as a three-star prospect with a 0.865 composite score by 247Sports, is ranked as the No. 84 recruit in California. He chose BYU over offers from programs including Utah, Arizona, Cal, Minnesota, Washington, San Diego State, and Oregon State.
Primarily playing as a safety at St. Francis High, Alatini has also contributed as a wide receiver. Recruiting analysts project him to continue on the defensive side at BYU, with potential to develop into a linebacker depending on his physical progression.
Alatini is the ninth commitment for BYU’s 2026 class, joining recruits such as tight end Brock Harris, offensive lineman Bott Mulitalo, and wide receiver Terrance Saryon. This class is shaping up to be one of the strongest in recent BYU history, currently ranked within the top 30 nationally.
His commitment also reunites him with former high school teammate Kingston Keanaaina, a running back who signed with BYU in the 2025 class.
